Go Solar With No Up-Front Cost: Alberta's CEIP Program

You may qualify for Alberta’s Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)

If you live in Airdrie, Okotoks, Canmore, Banff, Stettler, Rocky Mountain House or Lethbridge, you may qualify for Alberta’s Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), a simple, low-cost way to install solar and pay it back gradually through your property taxes. Maverick Solar is an approved professional installer for CEIP-eligible projects, and we’re here to guide you through every step.

Finance your solar upgrades with CEIP

Alberta households spend nearly $5,000 a year on energy costs, and a big portion of that can be reduced by generating your own clean electricity. Adding rooftop solar through Maverick Solar is one of the most effective ways to cut long-term utility bills and take control of rising energy costs.

The biggest question homeowners usually have is how to afford the upfront investment. That’s where the Clean Energy Improvement Program makes a real difference.

CEIP allows eligible homeowners to install solar with no upfront payment when working with a CEIP Qualified Contractor like Maverick Solar. Instead of paying all at once, the cost of your solar system is spread out over several years and repaid through your property taxes. It’s a simple, low-pressure way to start saving sooner and enjoy the long-term benefits of clean energy.

Competitive rates and flexible repayment options

The Clean Energy Improvement Program makes energy upgrades more affordable with low, fixed interest rates and long repayment terms. Depending on your municipality, you can finance up to 100% of your project costs, and some communities even offer extra rebates to lower your total investment.

Simple repayment through your property taxes

CEIP financing is added directly to your property tax bill, so payments are made to your municipality over time. If you decide to sell your home, the remaining balance can transfer to the new owner, allowing them to take on the payments and enjoy the improved efficiency. You can also choose to pay off the balance at the time of sale without penalty, depending on your agreement.

A better experience for homeowners

Energy efficiency and renewable upgrades can lower energy use, boost comfort, and increase the overall performance of your home. All CEIP-funded improvements must be installed by a CEIP Qualified Contractor, ensuring the work meets program requirements. Qualified contractors receive dedicated CEIP training, making the process easier, clearer, and more reliable for homeowners.

Who Is Eligible?

Each municipality runs its own CEIP program with unique funding limits, interest rates, and incentives. Most programs fill quickly, so it’s best to apply as early as possible.

Below are the CEIP details for the communities we serve:

Airdrie

Stettler

Okotoks

Rocky Mountain House

What's Covered?

How does CEIP work?

CEIP is voluntary for municipalities. To set up a CEIP program, a municipality must first pass a CEIP bylaw. Once passed, the municipality contracts Alberta Municipalities to deliver the program to property owners. Property owners follow the program process to complete eligible energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. Once upgrades are installed and approved, repayment is made through the property owner’s municipal property tax bill.

Steps to Apply for CEIP Financing

PRE-QUALIFICATION

Complete and submit the Pre-qualification form with the appropriate municipality you reside in. This is available for property owners in participating municipalities only.

PROJECT APPLICATION

Once pre-qualified, complete your EnerGuide Home Evaluation and choose your upgrades. Select a Qualified Contractor for your installation. We recommend getting at least three quotes. Complete and submit the Project Application Form and provide the required supporting documents.

AGREEMENTS

Once your project is approved, sign the Clean Energy Improvement Agreement and the Project Agreement.

INSTALLATION

Your Qualified Contractor will install your upgrades. After the installation, you complete and submit the Upgrade Completion Form with the required supporting documents and complete a post-project EnerGuide Home Evaluation.

REPAYMENT

Once your submissions have been approved, CEIP will pay your contractor. You will see the total project cost added to your property’s tax bill.

What Our Customers Say

Don’t just take our word for it, hear from satisfied Alberta homeowners

Ryan M.
Calgary, AB

“Highly recommend the Maverick team for your next solar project!

We had countless door knockers that got us interested in adding solar to our home, but it felt more like pressure sales than actually partnering up with an expert.

From start to finish Kyle and the Maverick team provided thorough communication, a sleek design and high quality workmanship. Maverick delivered exactly what had hoped for on this project. The install team even went above and beyond by patching a leaking vent while on our roof. This kind of care and service is rare, shout out to Matt and Donnie.

Thank you!”

Ryan K.

“I contacted eight different solar companies before finding Maverick Solar. Every other company tried to upsell me on equipment I didn’t need, and none of them were willing to go the extra mile, like moving roof vents to maximize my system’s potential.

Maverick Solar was the complete opposite. They handled everything, including relocating the roof vents, and were able to design a system that covers 103% of my current energy usage. Their team was incredibly friendly, professional, and always took the time to explain every detail in a way that made sense.

Even months after the install, they still check in to make sure everything is running smoothly. The level of care and service they provide is rare these days. I highly recommend Maverick Solar to anyone looking for a company that truly puts the customer first and will do whatever it takes to build you an optimized system.”

“The team at Maverick Alternative Energy were very knowledgeable, friendly, thorough and meticulous. They accommodated their work schedule around a sleeping new born and explained the Greener Homes Grant, supply chain challenges and installation steps.

MAE don’t require payment before the Greener Homes Loan comes through. This makes the process frictionless as other providers requires you to get a briding loan until the funds from the government comes through and you incur interest charges for a couple of months.

Highly recommend MAE for any solar and electrical projects.”
